Ulu with scrimshaw by

This ulu (woman's knife) was made by the late Herbert Nayokpuk, most likely in the 1970's. The walrus tusk ivory handle depicts an open sail boat with a lone sailor. Emerging from the top of the handle is a polar bear.<br><br>While there are commercially made ulus, it is much less common to find one that is hand wrought with carving and scrimshaw. The ulu has a sharp edge.<br><br>Materials: walrus tusk, brass, steel.<br><br>5 7/8" x 4 5/8" x 5/8"
