Nakwesee, who is of Cherokee heritage (and adopted by the Kwakiutl nation) was awarded a ribbon in 2009 for this tactile piece by the Heard Museum in Phoenix. To truly appreciate this sculpture, you need to hold it in your hand, feeling the silky smooth finish, and admiring the intricate carving and inlay.
Figures include salmon, seal, bear, loon, frog.
Materials: "fossil" ivory with walnut, ebony, abalone, and copper inlay; copper hand cradle.
