White bear katsina (archaic style) by Ramson Lomatewama, Hopi

This is one of Lomatewamas archaic style dolls. He does not use any metal implements in making these. He shapes the wood with an obsidian tool, and he spins his own cotton. He gathers minerals to mix paints. The simplicity of this doll is reminiscent of ancient katsina dolls, and is quite pleasing.
